It’s Toddler Time

Wednesday July 11th

Does your little one love music??
This week we are SO excited to have Derek McKinley here at the farm preforming for the kids!! He will start his show at 11am. You don’t want to miss this one!!

Singer and children’s entertainer Derek McKinley brings his joy of life to music in a fun way inspiring children and adults alike!
Derek mainly plays silly fun songs by Raffi…such as: Baby Beluga, The Wheels on the Bus, Down by the Bay and other faves like the Robot Song, She’ll be Coming round the Mountain…and newer ones like I’m So Happy by the Salteens, It’s okay try again by the Shins, and Jump Up by Dan Zanes.
Derek has written and recorded a few songs of his own for his debut album of children’s songs…these include fun songs such as ‘The Park Song’ and ‘Earth Party’…songs that focus on protecting our earth and living environmentally conscious.

The theme for toddler time his week is Old McDonald.
Old McDonald is all about farms and farm animals. Explore the farm themed sensory tables and see all the real animals on the farm. Get outside and play! Farms are educational playgrounds for young minds.

Every week during toddler time you will get to see all the farm animals, feed the goats, take a walk in the woods out to our natural pond and spot the herons in their nests. Bring a picnic lunch or snacks and spend some time in our games field playing.

This is not a structured program, we encourage you to let your little one take the lead and let them decide how they want to spend their time at the farm. Slow down and let them explore the farm at their own pace.

Toddler time is an exclusive time slot for toddlers (age 0-6) and their Moms, Dads and Caregivers.

Canada Day Long Weekend

strawberry shortcakeIt looks like its going to be a warm weekend in the Capital. Below is a brief overview of what’s happening this weekend.

Saturday – Our weekly farmers market runs as usual from 9AM-2PM.  This week in celebration of Canada Day we will be having a strawberry social.  We will be giving out free strawberry shortcake starting at 10AM (while quantities last). One of our vendors, Another Chapter Publishing, will be handing out “I Am Canadian” bookmarks. On top of this, for the Canada Day theme Sheppard’s Spring Farm will have strawberry tarts and Nat’s bread will be doing a maple bacon sourdough bread.

At the Farm site:  Free Face Painting from 10AM-12PM

Long Weekend Scavenger Hunt – fill out the sheet that goes with the scavenger hunt to receive one free admission for your next visit.

Our usual demonstrations will be happening:

Goat milking – 10am
Pig feeding – 11am
Lamb bottle feeding – 12pm
Egg collection- 1pm

Don’t forget in between demonstrations is all the other fun the farm has to offer like, visiting with all the farm animals (horses, cows, donkey, pigs, sheep, goats ….). Tour the historic house and farm buildings from before Canada was even a country.  Bring a picnic or pick up some snacks from the market and enjoy a peaceful lunch in the surroundings of nature. There is also a beautiful nature trail that leads to the 4 acre natural pond with blue herons, white egrets, Canada geese and mallard ducks. Bring your camera for some great shots.

Sunday  We will be closed for the day. With the extreme heat coming in for the weekend and all the other great celebrations for Canada Day we have decided to stay closed and celebrate with our family.

Monday – Weather permitting (we will have updates on this webpage, Facebook and twitter) we will be open from 9am-4pm again with our regular demonstrations happening (as posted above). Its a holiday Monday so why not spend some time at the farm, bring a picnic and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of nature.
